WE10 Bylaws Amendment Outcome

As we are preparing to give thanks as the holiday is upon us, we wanted to share with you the update from WE10 and the outcome of the Senate Meeting.  It was great to catch up with Barb, Tam and Wendy in person as well as attend my first official face to face Senate meeting – what an awesome learning experience!  With that, let’s get to the point of this post, the outcome of the bylaws motions were are follows:

The consent agenda items were passed and included the motions for:

S-1101 Member Voting Rights

S-1109  Board Eligibility

S-1110  Code of conduct

S-1112  Editorial Changes by Bylaws Committee A short summary of the remaining motions and decision is included below:

The motions that failed included S-1102 and S-1107:

S-1102  Region officer voting rights on region council – There was discussion on this topic and it centered around whether motion would allow disproportionate votes for a particular section.

S-1107  Disbanding a Committee by the Board of Directors – Society Secretary Stuart presented updated BOD procedure which covers this action.

The remaining motions were passed and here is a brief summary:

S-1103  Collegiate candidates for region positions – Discussed whether collegiate candidates would be prepared to fulfill positions

S-1104  Collegiate candidates for Professional Section positions – Discussed whether collegiate candidates would be prepared to fulfill positions.

S-1105  Collegiate Candidates for MAL positions  – Discussed whether collegiate candidates would be prepared to fulfill positions.

S-1108 Senate speaker eligibility. An amendment was made to remove section/MAL presidents and that failed. Ultimately the original motion is what was passed.

S-1106 Collegiate Director position on Board of Directors – This motion rounded up the voting and the Senate maxed out the discussion time.  There were some learning as to the details of method of election.  A couple of proposed amendments regarding nominating committee and modified electorate failed.  It was ultimately the original motion that passed.

For a summary of the FY11 Annual Senate Meeting Minutes, we have downloaded it from the Senate community for you to open and review more conveniently.
